The Problem

I had an old iPad that I wanted to repurpose as a digital photo frame. I removed the damaged screen and connected the LCD panel to a Raspberry Pi 3B+ using an HDMI controller board.

The frame was set up to display a static family photo, but I wanted to find a way to rotate through different photos without having to manually update the frame.

The Solution

I discovered a Python module called PyiCloud, which allows you to connect to iCloud and access photo albums using your username, password, and two-factor authentication.

I wrote a Python script that uses PyiCloud to connect to my iCloud account and access a shared photo album. The script runs every three hours and checks for new photos in the album.

  • Downloads new photos and saves them to the Raspberry Pi
